Lake District humanist weddings often appeal because of the wonderful backdrop that our local scenery can add to an outdoor wedding.
The picture above shows the Gazebo in the grounds of the Langdale Chase Hotel near Ambleside. It’s on the shore of the world famous Lake Windermere and offers the perfect location for a humanist ceremony. To start with – just look at those views! Then there’s the sloping lawns for your guests to stand on so that everybody gets a fabulous view. And, of course, it’s all backed up by the grandeur and hospitality of the Langdale Chase itself.
Whenever I write a wedding though, I always have a mind to the unpredictable nature of the Cumbrian weather. As your celebrant, I’m more than happy (no, honestly) to get very wet in the line of duty but your guests may not be. So, couples are advised to have an indoor backup. Indeed, I write two versions of your wedding script: one outdoor and one indoor version. Just in case.
At the Langdale Chase, on of the indoor alternatives is the grand staircase in the front hall. With the couple on the stairs they’re in full view of all their guests and that gothic interior is every bit as splendid as the Lakeland fells outside.
